Volunteer Spotlight - Laverne

| Volunteer Spotlight

How long have you been volunteering with Schneck Medical Center, and in what area(s) or capacity do you serve?

Hospice Volunteer for 3 years.

What inspired you to become a volunteer at Schneck?

Having retired after working 32 years at Schneck, and appreciating the mission and compassion of employees as well as volunteers, I wanted to give back and continue to share this mission.

What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?

Visiting folks in their home in a non-hurried atmosphere and just letting them talk and listening to their concerns and life stories.

Can you share a memorable or meaningful interaction you've had while volunteering?

A patient I visit is non-verbal. They love to work puzzles, color, be read to, etc. Even though they are unable to respond verbally, their smile says it all and these are our ways of communicating.

What would you say to someone who is considering becoming a volunteer at Schneck Medical Center?

If you are searching for something meaningful and rewarding, consider joining our Hospice team. It will only require giving as much as you are able to give and you will meet some amazing and thankful people who greatly appreciate your visits.
